Participation at Climate Crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East Conference
Dr. Athos Agapiou was invited to participate in the 2024 Climate Crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East Conference, co-organized by The Cyprus Institute and the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts. Building on the success of previous conferences, the event brought together key stakeholders to address the pressing climate issues in this vulnerable region. Dr. Agapiou’s presentation focused on the role of Earth observation in tackling climate change and preserving cultural heritage. He showcased examples from both ongoing and past research activities, including those of ENGINEER project, illustrating how advanced Earth observation technologies can monitor environmental changes and safeguard cultural sites. The conference, held under the patronage of the President of Cyprus, H.E. Dr. Nicos Christodoulides, emphasized scientific, financial, and policy strategies for climate mitigation and adaptation.
