Engagement with archaeological field campaigns with Roma3 Univ. at Athens
From Saturday, October 28th, to Tuesday, October 1st, the Engineer project team embarked on a comprehensive fieldwork expedition in the historic Megara region of Attica, Greece. This expedition was led by Professor Emeri Farinetti from Roma Tre University and involved an interdisciplinary team of students, researchers, and specialists.
Our primary focus during this fieldwork was utilizing UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) technology for high-precision field mapping, alongside conducting cutting-edge research in the fields of civil engineering and geomatics, with a particular emphasis on heritage conservation.
The fieldwork enabled us to collect detailed aerial data, which will be instrumental in enhancing our understanding of the area’s geographical and historical landscape. In particular, our research aims to contribute to innovative practices in heritage preservation, merging civil engineering principles with advanced geomatic techniques.
The data collected during this expedition will be carefully analyzed and compared with findings from the University of Rome’s team to allow for a comprehensive peer review and feedback process, further enriching our research.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Emeri Farinetti for her leadership and invaluable contributions to this research endeavor. We would also like to give special thanks to PhD student Federico Fasson, whose expertise in UAV technology played a crucial role in acquiring the aerial data that will underpin much of our analysis. This collaboration has been instrumental in advancing our project, and we look forward to integrating these results into our broader research objectives.
