ENGINEER Internal CUT Meeting: Update on the Results of the Geophysical Surveys

Today, an internal meeting was held to present the results of the recent geophysical surveys conducted as part of the ENGINEER project. The surveys focused on Tomb 7 and part of Tomb 4 at the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos, revealing valuable findings that contribute to our understanding of the site's historical significance. These results mark a significant step forward in the project, enhancing the potential for future research and preservation efforts at this important cultural heritage site.

ENGINEER internal CUT meeting

An internal meeting was held at the premises of the Cyprus University of Technology in preparation for the upcoming 2nd Annual ENGINEER Meeting on October 17-18. This meeting allowed us to review our progress, finalize preparations, and ensure alignment before the main event. We discussed key topics and ensured all necessary arrangements were in place for the annual meeting.

Comprehensive Study on Carbonate Rocks of the Sé Velha Cathedral in Coimbra, Portugal 

Tavares A., Rocha F., Fragata A., Costa A., and Oliveira M. present a detailed analysis of the carbonate rocks used in the iconic Sé Velha Cathedral in Coimbra, Portugal. This study, published in MDPI (2024), offers new insights into the preservation and historical significance of the materials. The research, funded as part of the ENGINEER project, highlights the ongoing efforts to protect this cultural landmark, contributing valuable knowledge to the field of heritage conservation. CAA 2025 Conference

We are excited to share that our session proposal titled "S3: Innovating Archaeological Exploration: AI-based Approaches to Remote Sensing" has been accepted for the CAA’s 52nd conference. We invite scholars who are utilizing AI models to process and analyze remote sensing data, such as high-resolution satellite imagery, low-altitude (low-cost) sensors, and airborne laser scanning (ALS), to submit their work. GPR sections at Tomb 4 and Tomb 7

On Saturday, October 5th, a visit to the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos was conducted with Professor Apostolos Sarris from the University of Cyprus and members of the ENGINEER project. A geophysical study was carried out around Tomb 7 and part of Tomb 4. Valuable insights into the historical and archaeological significance of this remarkable site were uncovered, contributing to the understanding of ancient burial practices in Cyprus.

Cultural Heritage Innovation: needs, opportunities, and future synergies

The ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence hosted an engaging workshop, bringing together prominent speakers and experts to discuss the preservation and monitoring of cultural heritage through advanced technologies. On October 2nd, the Focus Group on Twinning Actions management convened during the EPIBOOST annual meeting for a highly productive session.
