Site visit to Tombs of the Kings, Paphos
As part of the ENGINEER project’s research activities, Dr. Nicholas Kyriakides and Dr. Renos Votsis, project members from the Cyprus University of Technology, carried out a field visit to the archaeological site of the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos, focusing on Tomb 7. During the visit, accelerometers were strategically installed at different points of the monument to record vibration frequencies and monitor its dynamic behavior. This data collection is essential for understanding how the tomb responds to external factors and structural stresses. The results are being integrated into a Building Information Model (BIM), enabling researchers to simulate the monument’s behavior using real-world data. By adjusting and validating parameters with actual measurements, the team can achieve a more reliable and accurate model, which will ultimately support improved conservation and risk assessment strategies for cultural heritage sites.
