Success in “Strategic Research Infrastructure” calls

ENGINEER team members have secured a “Strategic Research Infrastructure proposal”. The evaluation result for the proposal submitted under the SMALL-SCALE INFRASTRUCTURES call of the Research and Innovation Foundation was announced earlier today. The “Research and Innovation Knowledge Centre for Engineering in Heritage” proposal, in short CONNECTING, is built around the vision of the “Strategic Infrastructures” research call towards the creation of a knowledge centre equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and platforms, like vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drones, RGB, multi- and hyperspectral cameras, LiDAR system, terrestrial laser scanner, soil moisture, ultrasonic, inclinometers, wire-less strain sensors and multibeam echosounder, that can promote research excellence about the detection, monitoring, documentation and analysis of cultural heritage sites and monuments, both in the land as well as underwater.

CUT team members are leading the project, with the support of national stakeholders (Department of Antiquities), academia (Archaeological Research Unit of the University of Cyprus) and private sector (Infralabs Ltd). The proposal was supported by the advanced partners of the ENGINEER project (POLIMI, UAVEIRO and UCL) as well as from the Geofem Ltd, UNESCO Chair of Digital Heritage and the Department of Land and Surveys.
